Oh, What Fun! Reindog 2009

This past Saturday, Brandi and I braved the cold with hundreds of other dog-crazy Atlantans to watch dogs of every shape and size prance around in their holiday finery. Where else can you find a French bulldog dressed as a menorah, a yellow lab gracefully sporting a wrapped gift box, and a whole lot of glammed-up Chihuahuas? The Reindog Parade, that's where! Despite frigid temperatures and grey skies, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens were chock-full of costumed canines strutting their stuff for the judges. Our trusty spokesdog, Boudreaux, was the unofficial Bark ATL welcome wagon for everyone (people and dogs) who came to say hello! He did a great job doling out treats and sporting his homemade, dapper Bark ATL bandanna.

Boudreaux says, "Does this jacket make me look fat?" Well... actually, it kinda does. Sorry, buddy!

We met up with one of Bark's favorite schipperkes, Willis Arnold, who had donned a shiny red vest and festive collar for the occasion. Willis and Boudreaux got to catch up for a minute while we chatted with his proud mom and dad, then it was off to line up for the parade! Catch ya later, Willis!

Oh, hey, Willis! Lovely collar!

Willis says, "Psst, Boudreaux, check out that sassy Yorkie dressed as Mrs. Claus!"

We made lots of new friends... perhaps that had something to do with the treat jar perched prominently on the edge of the table! We met a sweetfaced hound, Magnolia (Maggie), who quickly learned where to find the "treat ladies"... she came back a couple times!

Maggie works the sad hounddog face for more treats! Guess what... it worked!

We also got to meet Ringo, an adorable Brussels Griffon pup who was rocking a Santa hat and getting ready for the no-holds-barred Puppy Category of the parade competition. And guess what -- he came in second place!

Here's Ringo, fresh off his second-place victory! "Sorry, pupparazi... no comment!"

Getting to watch the actual parade was almost as fun as meeting the doggie contenders in person! The dressed-up doggies were grouped into their categories (Best Senior, Best Puppy, Best Holiday Finery, and even a Best Dog/Owner Lookalike!) and began to march along the path to the big lawn. We loved watching Huckleberry Hound, a black-and-tan who showed off some holly leaves and a rustic burlap sign that read, "Deck the Halls, Y'all!" While we were taking pictures, we saw another familiar face trot down the stage: Prada, the chihuahua! Prada is already a world-famous supermodel (check out her Steinmart ad!) and looked perfectly at home on the runway. She was with her BFF, Truffles -- the two love each other so much, they even have matching BFF collar charms! We also ran into pretty Miss Carmen, who was taking her mom for a walk and was so happy to see her Bark ATL friends! The whole parade was wonderful, and we especially loved seeing the "Amaryllis Pit Bulb" take the win for Best Holiday Finery. Talk about some showoffs... the Westminister competitors have nothing on these pups!

Carmen and her mom, Robin, helping each other stay warm! We love you, Carmen!

Prada and her mom, Maria, let us backstage for some pics of the supermodel chihuahua!

The Amaryllis Pit Bulb fits right in at the Botanical Gardens! One of the most clever costumes we saw!

We had such a great time at Reindog that we barely even noticed the chilly weather. OK, maybe that's an exaggeration... we were a little excited to turn the car heater on full blast. But what a fun way to spend a Saturday! We met so many nice folks who all share the same obsession: our wonderful, silly, sweet dogs. Congratulations to ALL who paraded through the Gardens -- everyone looked fabulous! See you next year... and in the words of Huckleberry Hound, "Deck the halls, y'all!"

BARK ATL Loves Coca-Cola!

We had a great time at The Coca-Cola Company today! Brandi & Gray set up a table to talk to Coke employees about BARK ATL. We wanted everyone to know how conveniently located we are to Coke, as well as the great things about BARK ATL, like cage-free day care and boarding, 24-hour supervision, valet BARKing, cushion-rubber flooring for doggies to play on, small play groups, BARK Cams, our great staff and so much more!

We are happy to serve Metro Atlanta's corporate customers and their wonderful dogs. We love our family of dogs, which include several Coke babies! We hope more Coca-Cola dogs join the pack. We love The Coca-Cola Company and we certainly appreciate the hospitality the company showed us today!

Thanks, Coke.

Oodles of Poodles and Doodles

When I am able to get my own dog, I would like to have a poodle or poodle mix. They have such beautiful, soft coats, and are smart dogs with sweet, unique personalities. Here are just a few of the poodles and doodles that come to Bark ATL.
King is our black standard poodle. You can't miss him. He's the one with the mohawk and plenty of attitude. I call him the Bouncing Poodle because when he gets really excited he starts hopping up and down which always puts a smile on my face.

Asti and Manley are our white standard poodles. Manley is of course just as his name states and a big goofy guy who's always ready to play, while Asti is a little more reserved but not by much; he likes to play, too.
Belvedere is a silvery brown poodle type and he's so sweet when he comes up to you and just nuzzles into your side.

Stella is a black Labradoodle who is so sweet and playful with a quiet maturity beyond her puppy years.

Lucy is my favorite Golden Doodle. She is such a sweetheart, quiet, sophisticated, and good to cuddle with. She's also a great dance partner.

I can't mention poodles without talking about GingerBelle, our miniature butterscotch-colored poodle Princess. She likes to play but she loves to cuddle, too. She greets you with lots of kisses and excitement and is such a joy to have in the group.

I enjoy all the poodles, doodles, and many other dogs that come to Bark ATL, and I look forward to having one of my own.

Happy Birthday, Rudy!

Today was a big day for little Rudy! He turned three! The birthday boy was outfitted with a fashionable, trendy birthday bandanna, and all of the girls swooned when he came in the room! Rosie was particularly infatuated with the birthday boy. Everyone got a birthday hat and enjoyed doggy cup cakes and doggy ice cream. There were balloons and all the makings of a great party. The VIP list included Wesley the Westie, Rosie the Beagle, Leo and Remy the Yorkies, and of course, the princess of the party Miss Ginger Belle.

"After cup cakes & ice cream, we all played on the playground and took turns running down the slide. It was the best birthday a dog could ask for - and I made a birthday wish to have my best friends with me for every birthday!" yapped Rudy with excitement.

By the end of the day, there were full bellies and tired dogs. It was a dog-gone good time. Happy Birthday, Rudy. You really know how to throw a party!

Much love, BARK ATL staff

Pick Me, Pick Me! I'm in the running for the Cutest Dog Contest, and I'm definitely an underdog in this competition! I'm a pit bull rescue, but I love my parents and my sister and I especially like the ladies! I'm a real good boy. I like to play bubbles and every time my parents walk me in Grant Park, I pick up a big log in my mouth & bring it all the way home. I'm trying to help them collect fire wood, but sometimes I try to eat the log. It's just irresistible... Well, if I win the contest, I will donate a lot of my winnings to the rescue organization where I was saved. I will buy all the dogs that come to BARK ATL treats for the Thanksgiving holiday, too. That's the day we find out which dog wins! I sure hope it's me. I've got big plans. A million dollars is the prize, and that buys a lot of bubbles at WAL-MART! You can vote every day. Be on the lookout, my YouTube VOTE FOR REMUS video will be out soon - it will make you laugh! oxoxox, Wet Licks, WOOF, WOOF, Remus

To be a dog....

Ahhhh....the life of a dog.

When I was younger, I hated grade school. I thought it was the most bizarre and cruel punishment my parents could ever put me through. I used to stare at our German Shepherd (usually at 9PM on a Sunday night...) and tell her how lucky she was that she didn't have to go to school. Now, I look back at that and laugh because dogs actually LIKE going to school, i.e. doggy daycare. Albeit, there are no long division questions, but they enjoy being out of the house and with their friends.

A tired dog is a happy dog.

Olive and YoYo-BFFL!

Olive, one of our newest members at Bark, really has made herself quite comfortable within the group! Her favorite dog is YoYo (or her Best Friend For Life-BBFL) and they're so cute and sweet cuddling and wrestling with one another. It's interesting to see friendships form here. Dogs are so similar to humans in a social aspect. They need friends to complete them just like we do! That's why I love the doggy daycare concept. It's so satisfying to see a dog who was very timid before become completely self-assured after they've made a couple of friends!

Thanks, YoYo, for being the best Welcome Wagon we could ever ask for! You have never met a stranger, that's for sure!

Kiss, Kiss and WOOF WOOF!!!

Staying cool at Bark ATL

The weather's starting to heat up a little bit around Bark ATL and we are so thrilled! That's right, thrilled! We really love warm weather here because we get to spend a lot more time outside and we get to set up the pool. It really is SUCH a blast watching the dogs play in the pool. It takes every ounce of the practical human in me just to keep me from jumping in there with them! However, I must say, sometimes after we get back inside from an hour by the pool, all the staff look like we've been swimming with them. The best time of day is in the afternoon when we come back inside from a long sun bathing/pool/potty break. All the dogs come inside and find their own special spot to nap, or they'll see how many can pile on my lap and at my feet. It's so awesome to just have that special time with your dog babies just cuddling. Like today, when I had Maggie and Millie BOTH piled in my lap napping and being little angels, I just couldn't help but think- who could ask for a better job? At Bark ATL we really love every dog as our own and it brings us so much joy spending time with them. So this summer, nurture your dog's fervor for fun and send them on a mini-vacation! Bring them to hang out with us at Bark ATL!

The Dog Days of Summer are almost here, but looking at these water-lovers you would never know it's still spring time!

Luke, Maya and Deacon are loving the pool so much and looking like they're having so much fun that even Bentley, the German Shorthair Pointer, is contemplating jumping on in!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO WESLEY!! We love you!!!

Hi! I'm Wesley & I had a birthday party today at BARK ATL! It was so fun - all my friends joined me, including Anderson Cooper-Monkey, Rosie, Pupi, Quincy and Prada. We all had a blast! Everyone was so excited to have doggy cupcakes and ice cream. I got my belly rubbed and played my favorite game - chase the tennis ball. I have been coming to BARK ATL since it opened, and I am a real spit-fire little guy. I love to watch out for squirrels in the back yard and chase them away! I also love to bark at the big dogs, but as long as I'm playing ball, nothing else matters! I hope everyone enjoyed my party today. I think they did, because there are so many pictures where all my friends are eating cupcakes and smiling. In the last picture of the set, Pupi is smiling so big. Today was just the best day ever! Thanks, BARK ATL! See you next week!
PS - Check out the picture of my party - you'll laugh!

Molly

Hi everyone! Molly here! They tell me I'm a teacup poodle and I'm the littlest dog at Bark ATL. However, you'd never guess that I'm a little puppy by the way I play. I love to run around and let the other small dogs chase me. I hide under the Kuranda beds and play peek-a-boo with Yo-Yo all the time- it's so fun! When I get tired, I get to go in my own special playpen and take a nap, but sometimes I just want to wrestle with my toys. Jocko, the Jack Russell, is my best friend in the whole world! We like to play chase together. I love it when we go outside and I get to lay in the sun for awhile, or cuddle up in a handler's lap! I have the best time at daycare and get along with all the small dogs so well. I'm so glad my mommy brings me here. I love Bark ATL!

My Birthday Bash

Hi Everybody! My name is Bailey and I had a birthday party today at BARK ATL! It was so much fun - all my friends came outside on this beautiful Spring day and we had birthday cupcakes and ice cream. We wore hats. We chased each other. We chased our balls. We chased our tails. We just laughed and laughed and had a blast! It was really cool that our favorite BARK people were there to give us treats (and birthday hugs and kisses! Thanks, Miss Brandi and Mr. Morgan). Silly Cullen got in the pool and laid down, even though there was no water in there! He really must have been tired! That Cullen cracks me up! He's a Jack Russel Terrier like me, only he's a big boy and I'm a little petite thing! I think he has a secret crush on me, but that's okay because he's pretty cute, too! My other BFFs were there, too, like Bettis (he is one fluffy Pomeranian & I just love him!). Willis and Rudy and Rosie were also there - they are regular day care "peeps" and we always have so much fun playing together. I'm so glad I have a "home away from home" like BARK ATL. Little Pup Lane is definitely THE place to be! Thanks for making my birthday so special, and thanks for always loving us so much and spoiling us, too! Until next year everyone (this was my second birthday in a row at BARK, I think it's a tradition now!). Oh yeah, click on my picture above to see the party for yourself! You can see how much fun we had - I'm going to sleep really well tonight. Good night! oxoxox, Little Miss Bailey

SAYONARA, Big Jake!

SAYONARA, Big Jake!

Big Jake - the biggest, most lovable yellow lab you'll ever meet - has been coming to BARK ATL regularly since we first opened our doors two years ago. Sadly for us, Big Jake is moving to Tokyo with his family and words can't describe how much we'll miss him! Everyone at BARK ATL has fallen in love with his giant smile and sweet disposition. Jake's favorite thing to do is lean against you or nudge his muzzle into you and look up lovingly as if to say, "I'm here now, pet me, love me." We'll miss you, Big Jake. You're going to be the most handsome, sweetest dog Tokyo has ever seen! We love you and we'll always remember how you touched our lives. Nuzzle. Nuzzle.

Beagles rule!

Rosie & Maggie napping

Hello Humans! My name is Rosie and I'm a beagle. I go to Bark ATL almost every day and love every minute of it. I'm always one of the first ones to arrive in the morning, so that I can start playing as soon as possible! My favorite thing about going to daycare is that I get to wrestle with my friends all day- like Bailey, the Jack Russell, and Willis, the Schipperke. I also really love showing off my big beagle bark whenever it's time for the little dogs to go outside. Maggie, the Dachshund, is my absolute best best friend. She's JUST like a big sister to me! Early in the day, we wrestle and play together really hard. Then, when I get tired and am ready to take a nap, Maggie lays down with me and keeps me warm and cozy. No matter what, Maggie always takes care of me and has my back. I love my best friend, Maggie, and I love Bark ATL!

Bring on the sunshine!

"This is our new friend, Norman, playing in the pool! Jake is checking it out, too."

Spring is just around the corner at Bark ATL, and all of the dogs are absolutely loving the warmer weather this week. I'm sure they all enjoyed last month's snow day, but now they're ready to soak up some sunshine in the upcoming months. The weather has been so nice, we've all been spending a LOT of time outside. No matter how excited and playful the dogs are when inside, the second they get outside, they all just want to lay out, relax in the sun, and smell the breeze. Madison and Presley especially love laying out in the grass. They must think they're getting a tan! This week was so nice, we even got to splash in the pool one day. That's a real treat for us, especially in early March! I can't wait until it gets warm enough to turn on our water misters outside. We love finding fun ways to help your pup beat the heat and we look forward to a cool, play-filled Spring (and Summer!) with all of our canine friends.

- Emily

P.S. Happy Birthday Toby! We love you and had so much fun throwing you a party yesterday. I know all your friends enjoyed celebrating with you, too! The pictures turned out so cute. They're already posted on the website at www.barkatl.com

Gretchen goes crazy when she's at Bark ATL!

Hi everyone! My name's Gretchen and I LOVE Bark ATL! My favorite friends are Maya, the Golden and Karisma, the pit bull! We are bestest buddies and love playing really hard with each other (not too hard, Crystal and the other handlers don't let me go TOO crazy). I was a rescue and now I have a great home with my Mommy. She takes really good care of me and loves me so much! I get really excited when I come to daycare that I can hardly contain myself! I wiggle around and get so crazy and when I get inside, I shred around the room a thousand times just to let everyone know that I'm here and the party can start! Best of all, I play so hard in the big dog room that I get very tired by the time my Mommy comes to get me and I know she loves that! I love all my friends at Bark ATL, but my girls come first...so here's to my best buddies, Maya and Karisma (I call her Riz!)

---Wags and kisses, Gretchen

Hi everyone! We have a great group of boarders this Valentine's Day weekend. They all just had their dinner and are putting their pajamas on right now! Cain is already starting to drift off. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We're taking extra special care of your little sweeties and giving them a lot of love.

Here's to having a not unlucky Friday the 13th and a very happy Valentine's Day!

-Emily

And They Called It Puppy Love

Love is in the air at Bark ATL. Remy has a crush on Puppi. Today, while Puppi was lounging in my lap, Remy was pacing around me from one side to the other and whimpering as if to say 'I just want to be close to her' and when he was able to get close enough, he would give her kisses. At one point, Remy stood next to my lap, rested his head on my arm and just watched Puppi sleep. His little Yorkie body would occasionally sway because he was falling asleep too. It was so cute.
Hope you have a little romance, too. Happy Valentine's Day!

Great start!

Hi everyone! My name is Luke. I just started at Bark ATL and I love it already. I always have a smile on my face! I have so many new friends that I love to wrestle with, especially Maya. She's a golden retriever just like me. Sometimes we play together for hours on end. I'm so excited about all the new dogs that came in this week, like Gretchen, Stellaluna, Harold, Penny, Prada, and Grendel. Gretchen and Grendel are puppies like me and LOVE to play hard. I can't wait to meet even more new dogs!

I just love Bark ATL and I know they love me.

Be a Fan of BARK on Facebook!

Hi Everyone! I'm Maggie (on the left) & I'm Millie (on the right). We are sisters & we're already BIG fans of BARK ATL! We love to come to the slumber parties and socialize with everyone. I play really hard (Millie), because I'm a puppy and I have TONS of energy! I like to hang out and watch (Maggie), but Millie is wild and she makes me laugh. I'm more of the motherly one, and I like to take care of everyone. We both love BARK ATL, so we joined BARK ATL's Facebook page as "fans"! You can, too! It's easy to become a fan! Just go to your Facebook page (or create one!) and search for BARK ATL! You can also find the BARK ATL Facebook badge (it looks like the logo at the top of this post) on the home page of BARK's website. We'll see you there! In the meantime, I need a nap! - Millie I'll keep you warm. - Maggie

...a case of the Mondays

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who brought their dogs in yesterday. We had an awesome day! Usually our Mondays are pretty slow, but yesterday we had almost 40 dogs here. Not only did we have a lot of dogs, but we had a lot of GREAT dogs! Including Quincy (shown). Quincy and Matilda played chase all morning. We had two brand new dogs- Mordey, the vizsla, and Cooper, the boxer. Also, the cute puppy on our homepage- Tucker, started this week. They're all adjusting so well and already making new friends! Willis and Reuben were playing so well together in the little dog room. Rosie beagle and Rosie brittany had wrestling matches all day long. They've already started today, too! Thanks again for making it a wonderful Monday.

4 Dog Lap

I've learned a lot of new things since I started working at Bark ATL last March, like how to recognize a dog's emotions by watching their behavior, but did you know that you could measure the size of your lap by how many dogs can lay in it at once?! If you sit in the little dog room for about 2 seconds, just about every dog will try to climb in your lap. I have discovered that I have a 3-4 dog lap, depending on the size of the dogs. I can fit 3 tiny dogs (Dolce, Gabbana, and Dior) and one slightly bigger dog like Belle, Puppi, or Bean in my lap. The trick is having the right mix of dogs, in other words, at least one of the dogs doesn't mind being laid on. I'd have to say that having 4 dogs in your lap and a few others laying around you on the floor is just about heaven.

Kathleen
